György Gyivicsan is an internationally acclaimed Hungarian trombonist, associate professor, soloist and chamber musician. His artistic profile is defined by technical precision, stylistic versatility and a strong commitment to contemporary music.

He studied in Szeged, later continuing his education in Germany and Switzerland under the guidance of Prof. Branimir Slokar. He earned his Soloist Diploma at the Bern University of the Arts and completed his Doctor of Liberal Arts (DLA) degree at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest in 2013.

His international career gained momentum through major competition successes, most notably winning First Prize at the International Trombone Competition in Porcia, Italy (2003). Since then, he has appeared as a soloist and masterclass artist across Europe, North and South America, and Asia.

International Presence

Gyivicsan is a frequent guest artist at the International Trombone Festival (USA, Europe, South America) and has presented masterclasses at leading institutions including the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar, Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno, and numerous universities worldwide.

He has taught and performed in Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, Brazil, Argentina, South Korea, the United States, China, and many other countries.

Orchestral & Chamber Music Career

He was member of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and served as Co-Principal Trombone of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra between 2013 and 2015.

He was member of the internationally renowned Slokar Trombone Quartet. In 2009, he founded the SzegEd TRombone ENsemble, which has since become one of World’s leading trombone ensembles.His discography includes more than twenty internationally released recordings.

Academic & Artistic Leadership

Gyivicsan began his teaching career in Szeged and currently serves as Professor at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. In 2022, he founded SETRENfest – International Trombone Festival.
