Dušan Sodja studied clarinet with Alojz Zupan at the Ljubljana Academy of Music and at the University “Mozarteum” in Salzbrug with Alois Brandhofer where he was awarded a Master’s degree. Since 1996 he is clarinetist soloist of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and teacher at the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet.
He has given concerts in Slovenia, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Poland, Scotland, Italy, Germany, Slovakia, Sweden, Spain, Armenia, China and the USA and has performed as a soloist with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the Darmstadt State Opera, Bogdan Warchal Slovak Chamber Orchestra, Cappella Istropolitana, Celje String Orchestra. In 1992 he was clarinetist in the Youth Symphony Orchestra in Bayreuth, and a year later also in the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra in France.
From 2001 to 2005 Dušan Sodja was lecturing at “Junge Kärntner Bläserphilharmonie” in Austria. He has given masterclasses at “OrkesterKamp” summercourses (Slovenija) for symphony and winds orchestras between 2007-2017. Since 2013 he has given masterclasses in Summer School “Zreče”.
With his wife-pianist Tatjana Kaučič they established Duo Claripiano in 1994. They studied chamber music with Božidar Tumpej and completed specialist studies with pianist Anthony Spiri at the Cologne University of Music. Since then they have given a number of noticable concerts (Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Ljubljana Summer Festival, Carinthischer Sommer, ClarinetFest in Los Angeles, Madrid, Assisi, Florida, Montepulciano Chamber Music Academy, International Music Festival in Yerevan, Mendelssohnhaus in Leipzig, China Tour in 2019). They have premiered more than 40 works by Slovenian composers and recorded several compact discs: “Legends” in 1999, “Encounters” (2004) with pieces by Slovenian composers dedicated to them), “Romantic Claripiano” (Brahms, Schumann, Saint-Saëns), “20 Claripiano” (2014), “Dual embrace” (2017) with concert pieces of slovenian composers on slovenian folk motifs. The last CD “30 ClariPiano” issued in 2025 consists of Concertos for Clarinet, Piano and String Orchestra written by slovenian composers Nenad Firšt, Črt Sojar Voglar and Andrej Makor.
As jury member he participated at numerous International and National Competitions (Ohrid Pearl, Finalis, Emona, Prima la Musica Austria, Požarevac).
Since 2014 Dušan Sodja has been playing on Seggelke clarinets of Bamberg (boxwood and grenadille). He has been using mouthpieces by Gleichweit (Vienna) for many years.
