Rusnė Mataitytė is one of Lithuania’s most prominent violinists, recognized for her technical precision and deep commitment to contemporary repertoire. A graduate of the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Art and the Moscow P. Tchaikovsky Conservatory—where she studied under Viktoras Radovičius, Valerij Klimov, and Igor Bezrodny—Rusnė established her international reputation as a prize winner at the David Oistrakh and Louis Spohr International Violin Competitions.
Rusnė’s career has taken her to the world’s most prestigious stages, including Carnegie hall (New York), Vienna Konzerthaus, and St. John’s Smith Square (London). As a soloist and chamber musician, she has performed at major festivals such as the Aldeburgh and Newbury Festivals in GB, the “Europamusicale” in Germany, and the “Images Sonores” in Brussels. Rusnė has toured extensively across Europe and Asia, performing in the premier concert halls of Berlin, Munich, and Leipzig.
A dedicated champion of new music, Rusnė Mataitytė has had violin concertos dedicated to her by renowned composers Osvaldas Balakauskas, Algirdas Martinaitis, and Sadie Harrison, performing them with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and the St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra. She is a founding member of the acclaimed Kaskados Piano Trio, winners of the Johannes Brahms International Chamber Music Competition, and a long-standing member of the “Gaida” Ensemble and the Lithuanian Ensemble Network.
Rusne’s extensive discography, featuring works by Alfred Schnittke ( ProudSound), Osvaldas Balakauskas( BIS, ASV ), Sadie Harrison( NMC ), Feliksas Bajoras ( NAXOS ) and Šerkšnytė( LMIPC), has earned widespread critical acclaim for its contribution to Eastern European contemporary music. In addition to her performing career Rusnė Mataitytė is a Professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and the National M.K. Čiurlionis School of Art, where her students have become laureates of prestigious international competitions, including the August Dombrovski, Jaroslav Kocian, Andrea Postacchini and Jascha Heifetz competitions.
